Petts Wood VE day 80th Anniversary Celebrations - 8th May 2025.

On 8th May 2025, the Petts Wood Branch and Club of the Royal British Legion marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with an Afternoon Tea at the Club — a commemoration for those members of our community who remember the street parties and celebrations that followed the end of the Second World War.

Eighty members of the community joined us, alongside family members and guests, for an afternoon of live music from the era. The Branch President gave a presentation of photographs from the period, bringing to life the moments of joy and relief that swept the country on that day in 1945.

The occasion also gave the Branch the opportunity to recognise the dedication of its own members. Certificates of Service were presented to members in acknowledgement of their long and valued contribution to the Petts Wood Branch.

At 18:30, the afternoon drew to a close with a one-minute silence, observed in line with the national commemoration. A wreath was laid and candles were lit in the Garden of Remembrance — a quiet and fitting end to a day that honoured both the past and the people who carry its memory forward.
